Frequently Asked Questions

Can I buy the actual image I see on the website?

Usually Yes, sometimes we show only a taster of what is possible because most of our products are especially made for our clients.

At u-ni-k we believe in making products personal to the recipient, so that it is special and made a 'little different' for each client. We do have stock of most of the products we hold, but we like to order pieces so that they can be tailored to your specifications.

So you can choose to purchase the gift as you see it on the website or order your own bespoke version. The choice, as always, is yours.

We work with the work ethic that anything should be possible! We love a personal service that isn't too intrusive but helpful when we go shopping. We want to give that special service back to you. Contact us and we can discuss how to deliver what you are looking for.

Is post and packaging included in the price?

No, post is calculated when we finalise your order.

All prices include VAT and delivery is charged in addition at the time of the order, as per your invoice. Products ordered through commission or with additional personalisation will be priced at the time of ordering.

We have a sliding scale of postage charges depending on the value of your order. All parcels to EEC Countries and other destinations will be charged at cost.

2013 Update - Due to the UK Royal Mail price increases we are updating our postage costs. We will be spending the next few weeks updating our website prices to the UK First Class service. This means that we will no longer be sending our packages Special Delivery, so please allow for more time for your package to arrive.

If you purchase one of our more expensive items, such as a Shuktara blanket - we will continue to send via Special Delivery.

While we are rolling out this update we will continue to send items Special Delivery if the website charges you this amount, otherwise we will be changing our prices to be in line with the UK First Class service.

Here's the PDF document outlining the new prices.

Also don't forget we will post to any country in the world, so if you want to discuss postage and postage costs for a particular item then please do not hesitate to email or call us!

(Psssst if you spend over £75 then you don't need to worry about the postage - we'll gift wrap and send free of charge!)

If I don't buy through the website, how do I pay for my gift?

By using our PayPal service

We only accept payment through our PayPal account. You do not need a PayPal account, non-paypal users can choose to pay directly by card rather than via a payPal account. We can even take payments over the phone using payPal, and at all times your information is secure and safe.

Deposits

For all commission based orders, we take a 50 % deposit on order, to confirm the order. The balance is then due when the product is complete, and before delivery is made. The deposit and payment process dates are all clearly presented to you in a commission plan' that we email to you with your order confirmation.

Please note that for commissions, deposits are non refundable.

Does everything come gift wrapped?

Yes and at no extra cost!

How often have you received a gift that looks almost too good to open? Once or twice? But you still have the memory of the joy that the beautifully wrapped gift gave you when you first laid eyes on it. Both Anna and Sarah believe that from the very first moment you see your u-ni-k gift, the exquisite wrapping should create the same joy of anticipation.

We always gift wrap every product that leaves u-ni-k so that you can give it to its new owner exactly how you receive it. We wrap it without stickers or sellotape so that you can peek inside without disturbing the wrapping too much.

Do you use recycled paper for your gift wrap?

No, we use sustainable cotton instead and wrap using furoshiki.

The ancient art of Japanese textile wrapping provides a dual purpose to protect and to wrap your purchase. Why do we use furoshiki? It is beautiful, reusable and kind to the environment (each year tonnes of plastic bags end up as litter and spends decades in landfills; reusable material, such as furoshiki can help reduce this waste). It's versatile, which allows us to wrap almost anything regardless of its shape or size. Furoshiki uses techniques similar to origami, with stunning results.

We add the final flourish of a silk ribbon and our compliments/gift tag and we think you'll agree that the end presentation is stunning as well as functional. Since we're not ones to waste, please remember that the cotton is yours and could be used again as a scarf, a shopping bag, or babies comfort blanket.

Love our wrapping?

If you'd like some of our wrapping material, then please order additional wrapping materials with your order. Extra wrapping will incur small additional cost.

My gift arrived in pieces, can I have a refund?

If your gift arrived damaged or broken we will try to replace it.

We treat faulty or broken items received on delivery very seriously! Please report any breakages within 3 days of receiving the goods. We will need to send proof of the breakage to our courier so please provide a photo of the packaging and the broken goods along with your notification of the problem to us. We will of course replace all broken or faulty goods where possible. If a replacement of the same design is not possible then in this circumstance a full refund will be made.

If you have changed your mind about a gift, refunds are not usually available as most of our products are made to order. This does not affect your statutory rights.
